Long Term Applicant Qualifications and Requirements
- Eligibility
- Between the ages of 15 to 18 years 6 months at the time
of departure in August
- Sons and daughters of non-Rotarians and Rotarians are eligible
- Enrolled in high school at time of application
- Actively involved in school/community activities
- Maintaining average or above average grades
- Successfully completed at least one year of foreign language
study
- Agree to attend high school in foreign country
- Have parents support to participate
- Willing to commit to minimum 10 month, maximum 12 month
exchange
- Cost
This will vary depending on the country you exchange
with. Excluding the travel fare (usually between $1,000 to $2,800USD,
the general cost for an American secondary school exchange from Rotary
District 7150 is approximately $1600-2100USD. This includes:
- Application Fee, which is non-refundable ($50.)
- Student Processing fee, refundable if not placed ($325.)
This fee covers the cost of a Rotary Blazer, blazer YE insignia, identification
badge, business cards, orientation sessions (3), Welcome Home Dinner
and administrative costs.
- International YE Insurance ($250-500USD) depending on host
country requirements
- Passport & Visa fees ($50-300USD)
- Spending money for year ($1000USD) depending on economic
situation at time of exchange and country
- Miscellaneous ($??) depending on student/family needs to
purchase luggage, camera, new clothing, etc
In addition, some countries offer tours for students which
are optional during the exchange year. Cost varies by tour and length
and the decision to participate is left to the student and their parents
to decide. Most parents have told us that it is less expensive to send
their child abroad than keep them at home for a year.
Dr. Clarke T. and Ruth Case
Scholarship Available
Applicants applying to the District 7150 Youth Exchange Program
may also apply for financial assistance from the Dr. Clarke T. and
Ruth Case Scholarship fund. A limited number of scholarships are available
annually to high school students with a demonstrated financial need
to enable them to participate in the youth exchange program. Scholarships
will cover up to 50% of the international airfare. Students wishing
to apply for scholarship assistance should request a scholarship application
from their sponsor club or the District 7150 Youth Exchange Committee
at the time of submitting the application to be an exchange student.

What Does Rotary Provide
- All school costs, except a uniform if required
- Host Family to provide housing and meals and emotional support
- Rotary Support Counselors in your host city
- Help with all travel arrangements
- Complete detailed orientation for students, their parents

- A monthly stipend (varies by country, is about $75USD equivalent
purchasing power)

Short Term Applicant Qualifications
and Requirements
- Eligibility
- Between the ages of 15 and 18 years 6 months at time of
departure
- Sons and daughters of non-Rotarians and Rotarians are eligible
- Enrolled in high school at time of application
- Actively involved in school/community activities
- Agree to host a foreign student in your home for 3-4 weeks
- Summer exchange typically occurs during June-July-August
for both students
- Typically a family to family exchange of children close
in age
- Need an interest in exploring other languages and cultures
- Families must be willing to provide activities for foreign
student while he/she is here
- Cost
This will vary depending on the country you exchange
with. Excluding the travel fare (usually between $1,000 to $1,800USD,
the general cost for an American secondary school exchange from Rotary
District 7150 is approximately $600USD. This includes:
- Application Fee, which is non-refundable ($25)
- Student Processing fee, refundable if not placed ($150).
This fee covers the cost of identification badge, orientation sessions
(1), International YE insurance and administrative costs.
- Passport & Visa fees ($50-300USD) depending on country
& need
- Spending money for a month ($200USD) depending on economic
situation at time of exchange and country
- Miscellaneous ($??) depending on student/family needs to
purchase luggage, camera, new clothing, etc.

A Successful Applicant for an Academic Year
Abroad
- Must be good ambassadors for their community, for Rotary
and their country
- Must have well rounded personalities and the ability to
adapt to new environments
- Must be curious and interested in learning first hand about
another culture
- Must be well adjusted in school and with their family
- Should live active lives and be involved in hobbies, sports,
youth activities, and volunteer work
- Must have 100% support from their parents/guardians
When and How do I apply?
Go to the Applications page, select
the appropriate application and other forms depending on whether you
want a Long Term or Short Tem exchange experience and follow the submission
instructions. Applications are accepted ay any time. Date of receipt
will determine which exchange class you are eligible for. Long Term
YE applications should be submitted late September of the year before
you will leave the following July/August. Short Term YE applications
should be submitted January of the year you want to go.
