Orientation Weekend Activities: Learning & Enjoying

Adults with the YE-Gang, from left to right are Skaneateles Rotarians Bill Stevens, YE Vice-Chair, Inbounds Lee Bennett, Skaneateles YE Chair Scott Wisner, YE Vice-Chair, Outbounds and Skan Rotary President.

Left: YE students at the Skaneateles club at the kickoff of their YE Weekend in downtown Skaneateles at Johnny Angles Rest. Many Skaneateles and D7150 Rotarians and host families were in attendance. They will visit the Skaneateles Schools on Friday, ice skating (and falling) at the Allyn Arena Friday afternoon, and have dinner with host families in the evening. Saturday they'll see the world famous TC Timber plant (maker of wooden toys), on a self guided tour of Skaneateles, off to Auburn YMCA for swimming and sports, and then back to the Stevens' household for Party Time. Sunday will be breakfast and lunch with host family and a departure for home in the early afternoon. All this packed into a few fun days with Rotarians and friends in Skaneateles.

The outbound class of 2000-01 "got it together" and set a new D7150 world record for steps taken during "Sit-Down Walking".

They blew past the old mark of 42, stopping at 52, amid cries of "Let's go to 100!"

The cast of the Rotex "first night" skit included, left to right, host mother Heidi Ach, father Mike Doctor, grandmother Amanda Eckler, brother Josh Kamp, student Robyn Chase, sister Jess Shackelton, and Rotarian Jaime Curtis. Little sister Margaret Hahn looks up from the floor.

Margaret Hahn (foreground) was the "bratty little host sister" in the skit performed by Rotex at Outbound Orientation Weekend, June 10-11. Looking on are "lecherous host brother" Josh Kamp, "newly arrived exchange student" Robyn Chase, "host sister" Jess Shackelton, and "Rotary counselor" Jaime Curtis.

2004 Outstanding District Youth Program Winner!
by YE Outbound Student Chair, Scott Wisner

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that at the USA/Canda Youth Exchange Conference banquet, Rotary District 7150 Youth Exchange program was awarded the "Outstanding District Youth Exchange Program" award for 2004. This award is given annually to the District Youth Exchange program that has distinguished itself for the quality of its program. Of the more than 160 district youth exchange programs in North America, roughly 1/3 of the total number of districts in the world, District 7150 was singled out for our program, not just based on the number of students we send and receive but for our innovations (the Rotary Mentor program was our innovation), the quality of the organization from the recruiting programs to the interview process to the orientations, the involvement of Rotex in our program and our contributions to other district programs (our materials are used all over the US and Canada for orientations, handbooks and other resources). Read more on Chairman's page.
