What is Rotary

FOUNDING of ROTARY INTERNATIONAL –
· Formed in Chicago, IL in 1905, Rotary is a global organization of business and professional leaders dedicated to humanitarian service, ethical standards in business, and to promoting world peace through programs such as Youth Exchange.
· Rotary clubs support community projects at home and abroad.
· Encourage high ethical standards and carry out humanitarian projects to address issues of poverty, health, hunger, education and the environment.
· Rotary Districts and clubs operate one of the worlds largest youth exchange programs and almost entirely with volunteers.

TODAY –
· This year, over 9,000 high school students will see the world and experience living in another culture the best way - by living with families and attending school in another country through Rotary's YE Program.
· With more than 32,000 Rotary Clubs worldwide in 200 countries, Rotary has an extensive network of volunteers, right in the community where you live, ready to provide the support necessary to make an exchange students year abroad a success.
· Rotary has the personal commitment of over 1.2 million individual Rotarians who want to give you the opportunity to make your Youth Exchange experience the best year of your life.

ROTARY DISTRICT 7150 –
· Rotary District 7150 consists of 48 clubs, the oldest (Syracuse) being formed in 1911, and the newest (eclubNY1) being formed in 2004. There are almost 1500 Rotarians living in District 7150. A map can be found in "Where is District 7150".
· Rotary District 7150 is known for its support of youth, health, literacy and vocational programs and special environmental projects. District 7150 is a leader in the Rotary International program to eradicate polio and five other childhood diseases worldwide. The Districts "Gift of Sight" program provides free eye surgery to children from countries that do not have the means or advanced technology to address this problem. Rotary does not discriminate on the basis of political, religious, racial, or gender. Women have been a part of Rotary membership since 1988.
· Rotary District 7150 has over 35 years experience in sponsoring successful international exchanges among high school students and is recognized all over the world as operating a high quality program.
· On the basis of materials submitted and reviewed, the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIET) grants 2007-2008 listing to Rotary District 7150 Youth Exchange Program, Inc. in the 2007-2008 Advisory List. The CSIET listing certifies that the Rotary District 7150 Youth Exchange Program complies with the standards set forth in the CSIET's "Standards for International Educational Programs".
